i was on duty in a tertiary hospital for 24hours under the Dept of Internal Medicine in Calamba City, Laguna  when a Code Blue was called in the Emergency Room..patient on his early 40's was brought in DOA (dead-on-arrival).. he was immediately intubated, CPR was done..IV fluid was inserted and medications were given..adrenaline 6amps, atropine 3amps where each ampule were given at different time intervals..sodium bicarb was also given... while ongoing CPR, i explained to the wife and 2 daughters of the patient that we will do our best to revive him...since the patient has a flat line tracing on the cardiac monitor with dilated pupils, i didn't give them any false hopes....in my estimate, the approximate time of arrest maybe more than 30minutes before rushing in the ER..
but to my surprise, a cardiac rhythm was appreciated..we quickly added some inotropics (dopamine and dobutamine drip) hoping that we could somehow bring the patient to life..but because of the massive heart damage and with a history of severe valvular defect, patient succumb @4:47am after 45mins of resuscitation., i can hear loud cries from his wife and daughters..with an early age, he left his family...
